The holidays are just around the corner. You are probably now on the lookout for bargain items to give away as gifts for friends and loved ones. Thanks in part to the slowly recovering economy, people are now back on their feet with some renewed spending power – just in time for the holiday season.

But before you go on a buying frenzy, consider some of these handy guidelines that can help you to not only save money on shopping, but can help you earn some cash while doing ‘retail therapy’ as well. Considering these options will provide you with an opportunity to make the most of your shopping.

To help you maximize your spending during the holiday season, here are a few guidelines that will perk up your shopping adventure.

The list – keeping your eye on the goal

Creating a list of stuff to purchase is certainly one of the surest ways to help you maximize your shopping dollars. All you need to do is write down all you need to buy in a categorized manner, i.e. clothes, cosmetics, gift items, etc. After listing down all the stuff that you think you need to buy, leave it for a while and go back to it to weed out the stuff that you don’t urgently need or stuff that you can probably buy later. Creating a list is pretty much like goal setting. You keep your eye on what really needs to be attained. This way, you will avoid the trap of compulsive spending when it is time for you to head out to the stores.

Today, more than ever, while it is true that the economy is showing signs of progressive recovery, budgeting still offers some assurance that you will have enough resources to go around, for no one is really sure about what the future holds. Who knows? We might bump into another economic downturn in the next decade.

Knowing where the great bargains are

So now you have your list. To help maximize your spending even more, check your items online to see where you could buy them at great bargain prices. As the holiday season nears, merchants are lowering their prices on most items like there’s no tomorrow. Moreover, they offer coupons and cashbacks on many items that not only save you money, but also provide you with an opportunity to earn cash while shopping.

Microsoft’s Bing Cashback is an excellent example of an online resource that points shoppers to where the best bargains are, while giving them lucrative rebates. Other social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook are also great places where you can find a treasure of online bargains. Many Twitter accounts regularly tweet about deals, coupons and cashbacks. Shops and other businesses have caught on with the social media frenzy and have set up shop online through some of today’s most popular networking sites.

And for an even merrier spending, try to see if your credit card offers cashbacks and rewards. It would be a great idea to use your credit card when purchasing items in cashback stores not only for greater savings, but also for more cash rewards.

Christmas is one of those holidays in which we have to save a lot and as much as possible buy as much as we can for all of our loved ones. We can help ourselves through means of buying in bazaars or bargain shops. We can really find good items in there with a very cheap price. Thus we can buy more!

Great post guys! More power to you!

I already started saving up for the holidays a few months ago so that by the month of December i already have enough money to splurge on gifts and holiday vacations. I know I got so overwhelmed with the idea of buying gifts for my friends and family that i forgot all about budgeting and wise spending.

Thanks for these tips, i realized that its always important to know how to prioritize things especially when money is involved.

I take in to consideration that giving gifts during the holidays are important not because it’s really a must but it’s one way to give our simple thanks to those people who helped us all year and to those you gave us growth and experience. It’s really a nice way to give them presents but we need to take note also that money is not easy to earn so we should also need to budget so that you can give everyone your simple thanks for them.
