There are those who say it’s totally lame to shop during end-of-season and off-season sales. Why would you want to buy a shirt you can’t use until a few months later? By then, the trends would have changed, and you would end up wearing brand-new clothes that are just a year too late.
Contrary to consumerist belief, though, trends are not as fleeting as they present themselves to be. You can save a lot of money when you shop for clothes that are not in season. Of course, we are not saying you should not keep up with the latest fashion trends. It is always great to have a bunch of trendy items in the wardrobe. There are some outfits, however, that we can get at just a fraction of the cost when we shop for them at off-season sales. For the clothes that you tend to use a lot of, you can opt not to buy them when they are still fresh off the new releases rack.
Stick to the Classics
Classic shirts, sweaters and blouses never go out of style. Some tops can even be used throughout the entire year – it’s just a matter of layering and accessorizing. T-shirts are flexible tops that are particularly popular during summer. When you spot a sale, take advantage of it and buy as many T-shirts as you can in assorted colors and prints for both yourself and your family. Remember to buy kids’ shirts a size or two bigger, so they will fit perfectly by the time the new season sets in.
Jeans are also closet staples that you can safely buy during off-season sales. Some stores sell their bottoms at up to 40 percent off. Choose classic denim cuts so you can be sure the jeans will not look tacky when you finally get to wear them next season.
Take Advantage Season-Specific Items Price Tag Slash
Sometime in October, spring/summer sales sprout up. Swimsuits and beachwear are sold at incredibly low prices. It may be too cold outside to wear a bikini and a pair of surfing shorts, but this is the best season to buy summer clothes. Swimsuit fashions stay pretty much the same anyway. Why wait for summer to come in before you build up your sunny wardrobe?
Trends are What You Make It
There is no law that says you have to follow the latest trends to the letter. What matters most is that you look good and feel comfortable in the clothes that you are in. There are many great deals to be had during off-season sales, and it’d be a waste not to take advantage of them. If you really like that dress on the sale rack and you know it will be put to good use and you have the money to spare, go ahead and buy it. The fashion police are only going to flag you if your daytime top has too many sequins, anyway. And always make sure that your purchases are within your budget.
When it comes to clothes, I do not buy what is on the latest trends. Instead, I buy clothes that I can use all year round. I do agree with this post regarding buying or wearing plain tops and jeans. All you need to have is a lot of imagination and creativity on how you will wear it. It’s just a simple mix and match. In terms of seasonal outfits, just buy months before than buying on-season because sometimes, these outfits can be expensive on those times. It’s always better to buy early and get cheap deals than buying during the period and you’ll pay more.
